MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WZMQ) – In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital is hosting a unique fundraiser.
Employees were asked to put their artistic skills to the test for the hospital’s Bras for a Cause display, located inside the atrium. Now through October 31, the public can vote for their favorite designs at the cost of $1 per vote.
“It’s just a fun way to raise awareness and get people talking about it,” said Schoolcraft Memorial Marketing Director Sara Giles. “We’re getting lots of looks in the atrium. People are wondering what this display is all about. Our chief executive officer has agreed to wear the winning bra if we achieve our goal, so that alone should motivate our voters!”
The goal is to raise $10,000. That money will benefit the hospital’s mammography program, as well as the cancer fund at CBC Schoolcraft County.
“It’s so important to get regular mammograms so that we can catch anything that may come up as soon as we can,” said Brittney Pierce, a radiologic technologist at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital. “The technology has come so far. The earlier that we catch something, the sooner that we can get treatment going and the more likely we are to have a better outcome for that patient.”
The bras will be on display at several local events, including a Bras, Bingos, & Booze at Wheaty’s Pub on Thursday, October 22.
Votes can be cast by scanning a QR code at the display or online. To view each of the designs and cast a vote, click here.
