NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – Monday night, a Negaunee Township house fire left one man dead and another with severe burns.
On October 5, 2026, at approximately 8:40 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Negaunee Post were dispatched to a residence on M-35 for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, they found the residence engulfed in flames. A man who had made it out of the residence told troopers that another man was still inside.
Troopers attempted to enter the home, but they were unable to do so because of the heavy smoke and flames. The Negaunee Township Fire Department arrived and made entry into the residence while extinguishing the fire.
The man who escaped the fire was transported to a local hospital for treatment of severe burns. Once the fire was extinguished, troopers and firefighters found a 67-year-old man dead inside the residence. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The MSP Negaunee Post was assisted by the MSP Fire Investigation Unit, the Negaunee Township Fire Department, the Negaunee Police Department, Marquette Township Fire and Rescue, the Negaunee Township Water Department, and Marquette County Central Dispatch.
