ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – In honor of the late Dolly Parton, September 25 has been proclaimed Dolly Day. Fans around the world—including those in Delta County—observed the day by continuing the late singer’s legacy.
Friday afternoon, Upper Hand Brewery hosted a gathering in partnership with the United Way of Delta County, which runs the local branch of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Guests enjoyed drinks, listened to live music, and purchased food from the Iron Hoss Kitchen food truck. United Way team members collected donations and handed out children’s books, which are available for free to kids under the age of 5 through the program.
“Dolly is amazing in her philanthropy, and the Imagination Library is dear and near to me, being from an educational background,” said Taproom Manager Gypsia Flath. “I think it’s really important for people to know that this exists, because so many people do not know. I’m looking forward to building this and it becoming bigger and bigger with years to come.”
To complete the celebration, Upper Hand tapped a brand new English brown ale called Portage Point.
“Being that we are out in the woods with our five acres, we love representing Portage Point and all it offers on both sides of the road,” Flath said.
The brewery will showcase another new beer on October 2 to celebrate Plaidurday. On October 9, Upper Hand will tap Pie One On, a brown ale with maple and apple pie spices, at its UPtoberfest Pre-Party.
