ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Wednesday, three Escanba organizations put on a wellness resource fair.
The Delta Schoolcraft Intermediate School District (ISD), Escanaba Area Schools Student Services, and Bay College hosted a Be Well Bash. Held at Bay’s campus, the event was an upscaled version of last year’s Connect Well Resource Fair at the high school.
“It’s a great turnout, and I don’t think we could’ve done it without all of our partners, including all of our vendors,” said ISD School Comprehensive Behavioral Health Specialist Sarah Finch. “There’s a lot of variety of organizations here.”
“We have a partnership with MiLeap, which is the State organization that helps promote family engagement activities,” said Kristy Alimenti, Mental Health Services Coordinator for the ISD. “[MiLeap] helped fund this event.”
Residents of Delta and Schoolcraft counties were invited to connect with physical healthcare specialists, mental health professionals, local libraries and arts centers, law enforcement, and other community organizations. They could take home educational materials, as well as resources like Narcan.
Coordinators say the goal of the event was raise awareness about vital programs that people might not know exist in their community.
“People need to understand what they have access to in order to support their health and wellness,” said Alimenti. “Really, we just wanted to help build a sense of community, give people a space to engage with one another, and build relationships.”
