MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A handful of local talent took to the street Thursday evening, as the final installment of Music on Third kicked off.
The Marquette DDA says its one of the area’s most populated reoccurring events. After a cancellation in July from harmful air qualities, August’s Music on Third gathered a record of over 4,000 visitors.
“You close down a street, bring out the bands, and the people will come,” said DDA Business Outreach & Promotions Director Mike Bradford. “We’re really excited about the growth that we’re continuing to see with this event.”
For spectators, the night is a great way to visit Third Street businesses, catch up with old friends, and explore all kinds of new and familiar music. 17 musicians participated this time around, ranging from solo artists to established groups.
For some of those musicians, it’s a chance to build up a name. Addicus Bass Guitarist Josh Copeman says his band took off years ago with help from performing at the event.
“Music on Third is just massive,” he said. “It’s a really great opportunity to get out there in front of new people if you’re an established band, but also if you’re new, it’s like cutting your teeth a bit.”
With such high popularity, Music on Third will return next summer with an extention of events beginning in June.
