ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Thursday, three Cornell residents charged with animal abuse and neglect appeared in Delta County’s District Court.
In August, a police investigation led to the arrest of married couple Brianna and Kruzz Makosky, along with Kruzz’s mother, Nichole Jarvey. They were each charged with one felony count of cruelty to 25 or more animals, as well as eight misdemeanor counts of neglect to one animal involving death.
Thursday morning, Judge Steven Parks granted a bond motion allowing Brianna and Kruzz Makosky to live at the same residence. However, they cannot reside at the property where the offense occurred, as there is still an animal living there. They are prohibited from discussing the case with one another and from communicating with Jarvey.
“I do understand the prosecutor’s desire to keep witnesses separated so that the investigation, which is often ongoing, is not tainted and the integrity of the investigation remains pure,” Parks said. “I also understand that… it can be quite a long time between the time the case arrives in Circuit Court to the time it’s finally tried in Circuit Court, so I take that into consideration as well… While I understand the prosecutor’s concerns about the integrity of the investigation, I also believe just from the case files here that much of the investigation has been completed. Having dealt with both Brianna Makosky and Kruzz Makosky… the likelihood of them concocting some story that would be detrimental to the case, that would be persuasive and convincing, the likelihood of that happening is pretty slim.”
Jarvey was also prohibited from returning to the property where the cruelty occurred.
The case has now been bound over to Delta County’s Circuit Court.
