The Great Lakes Recovery Centers held its 19th Run for Recovery event at the Superior Dome.
Over 100 participants ran the 10k, 5k, and 5k walk this year. The event helps the GLRC in spreading awareness for drug addiction recovery.
The organization uses sponsorship funds and runners’ fees from the event to support the compassionate care fund, a fund that provides healthcare services to uninsured patients who may not have access on their own.
This year’s event saw a record $20,000 dollars raised.
“Each year that we’ve been doing this, we try to fund our Compassionate Care Fund,” said Great Lakes Recovery Centers CEO Greg Toutant. “It helps those that are uninsured, underinsured, or those that can’t afford care. It helps fill a very important gap in seeking services.”
Great Lakes Recovery Centers will host another Run for Recovery event on September 17, at Lake Superior State’s Norris Center.
