MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Since it’s creation almost 7 years ago, Kall Morris Incorporated (KMI) has paved the way of aerospace engineering out of the Marquette area.
In late August, KMI was selected for a multi-million-dollar contract to expand its resources, staff, and capabilities, before ultimately setting out with a high-scale project remotely launching in 2028.
“There was a lot of celebration with the team, and immediately after we got straight to work,” said Co-founder Austin Morris. “This contract is essentially the funding to grow our team, develop our technology, secure a launch, and execute the mission… it’s a multi-year project.”
The 48-month contract is with SpaceWERX, an innovation arm to the U.S. Space Force. SpaceWERX’s Strategic Funding Increase or STRATFI program paints quite the picture for the future of the U.P. company, Co-Founder Adam Kall says.
“When you look at winners of previous years, these are companies that have gone onto launch hundreds of satilites, become multi-billion dollar companies,” he explained. “We’re excited to join that group and still plenty of work to prove our place, but at least we have a seat at the table.”
Of the 11 companies selected for these contracts, Morris says one thing that sets KMI apart from other rapidly growing companies in the industry is its desire to remain in the area, all while still expanding.
“There have been a lot of significant milestones made here, and a lot of support that has been garnered by being here,” he said. “We are driven to keep this Michigan representation that we have.”
