GLADSTONE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A longstanding Delta County business has reopened its doors under new management.
Bungalow Tavern was built in Gladstone in 1934. When Bob Edwards and his wife saw that it had closed down, they wanted to restore it to its former glory.
“I retired a few years ago and didn’t like it much,” Edwards laughed. “My wife Tammi, she worked here for 27 years. This was a popular spot for years and years, and we wanted to bring it back.”
The bar is open daily from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. Happy hour takes place Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. From noon to 9 p.m., Bungalow Tavern also offers a full food menu, which includes a Friday fish fry, Wednesday wings, and a unique twist on “Taco Tuesday.”
“Instead, we do ‘Tatcho Tuesday,'” said Edwards. “It’s a loaded tater tot made in that traditional taco fashion.”
Edwards calls Bungalow Tavern “a U.P. tradition since 1934.” He wants everyone who comes to dine or drink to be part of that tradition.
“We get a lot of the same old customers from years and decades back, new faces,” he said. “Everybody kind of feels like family when they come here. It’s a lot of fun. We want to just keep that tradition rolling.”
Bungalow Tavern will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, September 12. Tom Edberg will provide live music from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and patrons can enjoy karaoke from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.
