MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – History came along for the ride this evening in Marquette.
The Marquette Regional History Center kicked off its summer bus tour season – loading up a classic air conditioned Checker bus for a ninety minute journey through the city’s past.
Dozens of riders took part in the first tour of the summer, which runs through July and August and serves as a fundraiser for the nonprofit museum. Volunteer historical reenactors bring the stories to life along the route.
Education and Administrative Assistant Emily Varga – who also serves as one of the tour guides – says there’s plenty of ground to cover. “We’ll be covering some of the geology in the area, some Anishinaabe history, also just classic Marquette stories that you hear,” says Varga. “We’ll also be covering the history of the Peter White Public Library, all of the banks, as well as the park cemetery and more.”
