ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – Downtown Ishpeming came alive this evening as part of a brand new Fourth of July tradition.
The city’s first ever Old Ish Days kicked off this week, a multi-day community celebration running through the Fourth of July.
Tonight’s downtown market brought out vendors selling everything from handmade soaps and crocheted goods to homemade jams and fishing lures, all beneath American flags lining the streets.
DDA liaison Diana Sundberg says that for Ishpeming, the Fourth means something special. “I think the Fourth of July, especially in Ishpeming, is a time of year when so many people come back home. I think it’s important that we have a variety of things for them to do and to see,” says Sundberg. “It’s important to show how our business community is growing and how our downtown is growing. To welcome home everybody who loves Ishpeming.”
The celebration continues through Saturday with a parade, community picnic, and fireworks at dusk.
