MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A longtime downtown Marquette business is preparing for a new chapter. Higgins Bingo Supplies, a fixture in the community for 45 years, is closing its retail storefront as owners Jim and Francise Higgins retire. The family-run company began in 1981 and grew from a home-based operation into a well-known downtown destination serving customers across the Upper Peninsula and Wisconsin. While the retail shop will close, the business will continue under new ownership as a wholesale distributor. Owner Jim Higgins says he will miss his customers, who have become like family.
“Bingo has its family. It’s the same people you see every week. You might see them on a Tuesday night at one place and a Saturday night at another, but after years and years, you just start considering them your family,” said Jim Higgins, co-owner, Higgins Bingo Supplies in Marquette.
Higgins Bingo Supplies is one of only a handful of retail Bingo stores left in the country. The Higgins family says they’re looking forward to travel, home projects, and spending more time with their grandchildren.
