MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Dozens of community members gathered at Marquette Commons this afternoon as part of a nationwide day of action.
The ‘Workers over Billionaires Rally’ was one of thousands of “May Day” events held across the country today, bringing together educators, parents, and community members to advocate for working families and public schools.
Organizers say the rally is part of a growing movement pushing back against what they call “attacks on unions, public services, and immigrant families.”
One participant, Tina Taylor, says the message today was simple: your voice matters.
“We want you to know that if you’re unhappy with the way the government is going, if you’re not happy with decisions that have been made on your behalf, then you need to understand that you have a voice, and you should use it,” says Taylor. “All are welcome here to do just that.”
For the Upper Peninsula Regional Labor Federation and Lake Superior Region Indivisible, today was one more step in making the voices of Marquette heard.
