NMU Women finish third at GLIAC Track and Field Championships

Manistique’s Danielle Lund is named Field Athlete of the Meet, and scored the most points individually in the meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan Track & Field Team finished the GLIAC Outdoor Championships on Friday afternoon on the campus of Grand Valley State.

The Wildcats finished in third place with 113 points. Eight podium finishes highlighted the meet for the Green and Gold, with Danielle Lund crowned champion in the discus. Lund was also named the Field Athlete of the Meet and the High Point Athlete of the Meet for her performance.

In The Field
With a throw of 42.97m, Danielle Lund was crowned GLIAC champion in the discus. She also found the podium in the hammer, hitting a mark of 51.66m for third, while placing fourth in the shot put (13.22m).

Alyssa Tumminaro and Kati Smith each hit 3.49m in the pole vault, with Tumminaro taking second and Smith third.

In the javelin throw, Teiolla Harvey continued her streak of successes with a second-place finish at a distance of 37.97m. Nowakowski secured seventh place with a distance of 33.16m.

With a jump of 11.04m, Alayna Vandegriff finished in third in the triple jump. Allison Schinke (10.70m) and Natasha Nowakowski (10.68m) were seventh and eighth, respectively.

Caterina Thelen was sixth in the discus with a distance of 39.18m.

On The Track
Sophia Potter and Madi Szymanski both secured top-five finishes in the 10000m, where Potter finished in third with a time of 35:34.63, and Szymanski finished in fifth with a time of 36:47.02. Both Potter and Szymanski ran personal-best times.

Baux Truckey collected a third-place podium finish in the 20m with a time of 24.35. She was also sixth in the 400m (57.39).

In the final event of the day, Maya Woods, Lilu Phillips, Truckey, and Beverly Harper earned a third-place finish in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:56.78.

In the 800m, Harper was fourth with a time of 2:13.68. Another fourth-place finish came in the 1500m, where Lamar Gordon crossed at 4:38.79. Ella DeBruyn was eighth with a time of 4:42.50.

At 17:26.79, Szymanski was sixth in the 5000m.

Woods (1:04.69) and Phillips (1:05.71) placed sixth and eighth in the 100m hurdles, respectively.

In the 3000m steeple, Dani Van Lente finished in seventh place with a time of 11:19.15, which put her a fraction of a second ahead of her teammate Anya Van Sweeden (11:19.23). Celia Wallace finished the event in 12th with a time of 11:32.25. VanSweeden and Wallace secured personal-best times.

NMU’s 4x100m relay team of Taylor Faulkner, Woods, Eva Zonca, Mikayla de Souza finished in seventh place with a time of 50.05.

Heptathlon
NMU had three compete in the heptathlon and were led by Zonca in fifth place among the twelve contestants. Zonca had her best finish in the 100m hurdles, where she finished second at a time of 15.05. Finishing in seventh was Natasha Nowakowski, who secured a victory in the javelin throw and a second-place finish in the shot put. Elizabeth Simpson finished the event in 11th.
