MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Manistique’s autumn Ladies Night has become such a success that organizers are launching a springtime counterpart May 1 – 3.
“For our November Ladies Night, there’s laughter, joy, and this camaraderie that you can’t find any other time of year,” Lake Effect Community Arts Center Operations Manager Katie Birsdley. “We always have a blast. We thought we’d do it again, but warmer!”
Ladies Weekend begins on Friday with a night of shopping, dining, specials, and pop-up activities from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., a new show titled Vibrant Rebellion by Jamie John Hider will open at the Lake Effect Community Arts Center.
On Saturday from 12: p.m. to 5:30 p.m., ladies are encouraged to wear their muumuus for Mrs. Roper’s Romp—named for the character from Three’s Company—for a day of fun, drink specials, and prizes. The festivities will wrap up on Sunday at Lake Effect Community Arts Center, where Kitt Latsch will teach a candle pouring class.
According to Birsdley, Ladies Weekend is an opportunity for women to take a break, socialize, and support local businesses—many of which are female-owned.
“I think that having female entrepreneurs down here, having such a strong main street, it really puts that drive and that oomph into Manstique,” said Birsdley. “If you’ve ever been down here, you know that it is all just love and comfort and, ‘Oh, I haven’t seen you in forever! How are you? How are the kids?’ It is just the sweetest thing. We spend so much time pouring from an empty cup; I think it’s time you fill your cup.”
