ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The second half of a major construction project begins this month in Escanaba, and it is causing changes for an annual beautification event.
Every May, the Esky Cleanup campaign brings community members together for a week of picking up litter across the city. This year, several blocks of Ludington Street will be closed while crews replace sewer lines and upgrade the streetscape. Because of this, Esky Cleanup week will be put on hold until 2027.
However, there are still opportunities to keep the city looking its best. Escanaba residents are encouraged to focus on cleaning up their neighborhoods and helping their elderly neighbors with spring cleaning.
City officials say that although the construction will come with challenges, the work being done is greatly needed. Like Esky Cleanup week, the work will also result in a more beautiful, easier-to-navigate downtown.
