WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer is leaving the Trump Administration, according to White House officials.
In November 2024, President-elect Donald Trump selected Chavez-DeRemer as his pick for secretary of labor. In March 2025, Chavez-DeRemer was sworn in as the 30th labor secretary after being confirmed by the U.S. Senate on a bipartisan vote, 67-32.
“Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer will be leaving the Administration to take a position in the private sector. She has done a phenomenal job in her role by protecting American workers, enacting fair labor practices, and helping Americans gain additional skills to improve their lives. Keith Sonderling will take on the role of Acting Secretary of Labor,” said White House Director of Communications Steven Cheung.
Previously, Chavez-DeRemer served in the U.S. House of Representatives where she was first elected in 2022 to serve Oregon’s 5th Congressional District.
Chavez-DeRemer’s departure comes within weeks of other cabinet exits, including the ousting of former Secretary or Homeland Security Kristi Noem and former Attorney General Pam Bondi.
