IRON RIVER, Mich. (WZMQ) – Nurses at Aspirus Iron River Hospital have approved a new union contract, marking a major step forward for staffing and patient care. Members of the Michigan Nurses Association voted Wednesday to ratify the agreement, which runs through the end of 2028.
Union leaders say the deal strengthens recruitment and retention by preserving experience-based wages, while guaranteeing annual raises. It also boosts pay for on-call, weekend, and night shifts—and restores extra compensation when nurses are required to stay beyond scheduled hours.
Nurses say that while the contract is a win, they will continue working to hold the hospital accountable and ensure quality care for the community.
