Marquette, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Marquette County Board of Commissioners met in special session today to appoint a new member to the seat vacated by Stephen Adamini, who resigned earlier this month.
The board voted to appoint Fred Benzie to take over Adamini’s seat representing the 3rd district, which includes much of South Marquette.
Benzie is the former director of the Marquette County Health Department.
Board chair Joe Derocha says Adamini will be hard to replace.
“Every one of our applicants was infinitely qualified for the position. Fred Benzie has some big shoes to fill,” said county board chair Joe Derocha.
To stay in office, Benzie will need to run for the seat in August’s primary and then again in November’s general election.
