NMU Women’s Track and Field fifth at GLIAC Indoor Championships

Vandergriff second in the triple jump

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Northern Michigan track and field team completed the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Indoor Championships on Sunday, taking fifth place.

The Wildcats had a second-place finish from Alayna Vandegriff and four bronze medal finishes, highlighted by Beverly Harper earning an individual as well as being a part of two third-place relays.

Pentathlon
Natasha Nowakowski finished on the podium in third place with 3,168 points, narrowly edging teammate Eva Zona in fourth at 3,166. Nowakowski finished first in the shot put, throwing a distance of 10.48m.

On the Track
NMU’s 4000m Distance Medley Relay team of Beverly Harper, Madi Szymanski, Baux Truckey, and Lamar Gordon finished in third place with a time of 11:47.34.

The Wildcats also took third in the 4x400m relay. The team of Truckey, Lily Phillips, Lana Mac, and Harper finished at 3:53.96.

Harper earned an individual bronze in the 800m, crossing the finish line at 2:13.46.

Szymanski went on for a fourth-place finish in the mile, clocking a time of 4:54.28. Gordon was sixth (4:56.96) and Ella DeBruyn was seventh (4:57.04). All three were personal best times.

Crystal Walker logged fifth place in the 60m hurdles, finishing at 8.91.

In the 3000m, Szymanski (10:00.79) placed sixth followed by Sophia Potter (10:06.16) in seventh.

In the 5000m, Potter paced four NMU runners as she finished in ninth place with a personal best time of 17:24.13.

In the Field
Alayna Vandegriff claimed the lone silver for the Wildcats, reaching a distance of 11.32m in the triple jump.

Danielle Lund placed fourth in the shot put, reaching a personal best distance of 12.91m.

In the long jump, Crystal Walker finished in fourth place with a distance of 5.60m.

Kati Smith was sixth in the pole vault, clearing 3.14m. Alyssa Tumminaro finished in eighth with Vandegriff taking ninth.

In the weight throw, NMU landed two in the top-10 as Teiolla Harvey finished in seventh with a distance of 16.54m and Danielle Lund finished in 10th with a distance of 14.46m.

Taylor Rogers tied for ninth in the high jump with a distance of 1.49m.
