ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Bay College is working to meet critical needs in the field of healthcare.
On Tuesday, the college’s Allied Health department hosted its fifth annual Health Career and College Fair. Students met with area universities and 25 Upper Peninsula and Northern Wisconsin employers, including OSF HealthCare, Bishop Noa Home, and Bay Cliff Health Camp.
“We’re super excited to have all of these employers here in one location, where they’ve come to the students,” said Bay College Allied Health faculty member Jennifer Farnsworth.
Students learned about jobs that are currently available in their communities, as well as summer externships. Farnsworth says in addition to preparing students to take on those jobs, Bay College’s nursing programs give students an idea of what their careers could look like.”
“It really exposes the students to a lot of hands-on opportunity in our skills labs, in our clinical sites,” she said. “[It] allows them to sit for their nursing boards within a two and a half year timeframe and get them out into the workforce as registered nurses.”
