Michigan Senator Slotkin Declines Interview with DOJ over “Illegal Orders” Video

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Michigan Senator Elissa Slotkin (D- MI) said she will not sit down for an interview with the Justice Department over a video she released months ago telling military members they can ignore illegal orders.

“Earlier today I sent a letter to Attorney General Bondi and to the lead Department of Justice lawyer in DC, Jeanine Pirro, telling them: one, I will not be complying with their inquiries and sitting down for an interview based on a 90 second video I filmed,” the Senator said in a video she released on social media.

Slotkin confirmed with us earlier this year the FBI and DOJ opened an inquiry on her after she and other congressional members released this video in November, telling military members they can ignore illegal orders:

“We know you are under enormous stress and pressure right now. Americans trust their military but that trust is at risk,” said the Democratic members in the video, which include: Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D- MI), Sen. Mark Kelly (D- AZ), Rep. Jason Crow (D- CO), Rep. Maggie Goodlander (D- NH), Rep. Chris Deluzio (D- PA) and Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D- PA). “This administration is pitting our uniformed military and intelligence community professionals against American citizens. Like us, you all swore an oath to protect and defend this constitution. Right now the threats to our constitution aren’t just coming from abroad, but from right here at home. Our laws are clear, you can refuse illegal orders. You can refuse illegal orders.”

In response to the video the President released a barrage of social media posts, even sharing one post that read: “seditious behavior, punishable by death”.

“At this point, I’m not going to be sitting down for this inquiry,” said the Senator in the video she released. “I’m not going to legitimize their actions.”

The Senator adds she also urged federal officials to retain their records on this case in case she decides to sue for infringement of her constitutional rights.

“They’re purposefully using physical and legal intimidation to get me to shut up,” said the Senator. “But more importantly, they’re using that intimidation to deter others from speaking out against the administration. The intimidation is the point and I’m not gonna go along with that.”

We reached out to the US Attorney for DC Jeanine Pirro’s office to ask about the investigation and what they think of the Senator’s latest video, but have not heard back yet.
