WELLS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Wells Township family lost a pet in a house fire Saturday morning.
Just before 11 a.m., Escanaba Public Safety was dispatched to a fire on M.25 Lane in Wells Township. While initial reports indicated that a child was trapped inside the home, Central Dispatch was able to clarify that there was a dog trapped inside, not a child.
Upon arrival, heavy smoke and flames were coming from the south side entrance door and eaves. Public Safety officers located the fire in the kitchen and quickly brought it under control.
The house suffered major smoke and water damage. A detached garage also took minor damage, as some of the siding melted due to the extreme heat. The dog trapped inside the house did not survive.
Escanaba Public Safety was assisted by the Ford River Township Fire Department, the Escanaba Township Fire Department, DTE, UPPCO, Delta County Central Dispatch, the Delta County Sheriff’s Office, the Delta County Road Commission, and the Red Cross.
