ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Registration is now open for an event designed to bridge the gap between unionized labor and management.
The Upper Peninsula Labor Management Council will host its annual spring conference on March 12 at The Island Resort and Casino. Speakers from the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, Northern Michigan University, and other organizations will give presentations on employee mental health, wellness, and work-life balance.
“The workforce is changing, employees are changing, and what they’re looking for is changing,” said Jessica Johnson, Business and Project Manager for the U.P. Labor Management Council. “Employees want to be supported. Giving companies a way to do that is good for everybody.”
Johnson says the event provides valuable information and resources for both laborers and employers.
“We want representatives from both sides,” Johnson said. “If a company is coming, we would also like them to bring some of their labor so that everybody gets the information. Then, they can take that back to their organizations and collaborate and work together for a better workforce, a better workplace, and all-around better working conditions for everyone.”
