HARRIS, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Thursday, the Island Resort & Casino and the Escanaba Daily Press hosted an annual event for festive food lovers and home chefs alike.
The Taste of the Island Holiday Cooking Show featured a lineup of presenters, including the Yooper Goddess, who demonstrated their favorite seasonal recipes. Local vendors set up shop around the Island’s new grand ballroom, offering sweet treats and last-minute Christmas gift ideas.
New this year, attendees submitted their personal holiday recipes in the weeks before the event. Two lucky cooks got to be part of the show, working with Island chefs to showcase their dishes. Audience members then had the opportunity to try those dishes for themselves at the buffet.
This was the third annual Taste of the Island Holiday Cooking Show. Island Resort & Casino Food and Beverage Director Stephen Gakstatter says the event is getting bigger every year.
“We’ve gone from 140 people last year to over 350,” he said. “We’re very excited about it. It’s just about the love of the holiday. There’s so much peace and harmony and a lot of good will tonight. It’s so heartwarming. I’m very proud, and my team, to be a part of this.”
The Island team also created a special holiday drink for the show called Santa’s Spiked Hot Chocolate. The cozy drink was made with peppermint schnapps, whipped cream, and crushed candy canes.
The Taste of the Island Holiday Cooking Show was sponsored by WZMQ 19, Pioneer TV & Appliance, Perks Cabinetry, Radio Results Network, and Elmer’s County Market.
