ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Escanaba Public Safety Department is addressing community members’ questions surrounding a series of local fires.
According to a press release, the department is aware of public concerns regarding recent fires throughout the city. Escanaba Public Safety’s fire investigator has completed origin and cause examinations for each incident.
The department says that it understands the worry that multiple fires in a short time period can create. As part of ongoing prevention efforts, Escanaba Public Safety is working with property owners to improve fire safety and upgrade buildings wherever possible to reduce future risks.
The press release states that if at any time Escanaba Public Safety had credible information suggesting a threat such as an arsonist operating in the community, the department would immediately notify the public and its media partners.
“Your safety is and always will be our top priority,” the department said in its statement.
Community members who would like additional information or who have questions are encouraged to contact Public Safety Director Darren Smith or Captain Austin Young. They are willing to discuss fire safety concerns, prevention efforts, and steps that can be taken to protect local neighborhoods.
