ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Delta County is coming together to support those impacted by a fire at the House of Ludington.
On Friday, Escanaba Public Safety responded to a fire at the historic building. It took firefighters several hours to get the blaze under control.
The House of Ludington took heavy damage, leaving restaurant staff without work and tenants without a home. To support them, local organizations have launched fundraising efforts.
Kindness Rocks U.P. has made buttons with the phrase “Gone but Never Forgotten” above a photo of the House of Ludington. Buttons are available for $5 each at Nyman Jewelers, located at 911 Ludington Street. The shop also has a change bucket set up to accept monetary donations without the purchase of a button.
Now through December 21, UP Fresh Eggs is collecting food, clothing, and personal care items for those who have been displaced. The business is located at 5017 View 17.5 Drive in Escanaba, and donations can be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Drifter’s Restaurant on North Lincoln Road is also raising funds for the House of Ludington staff and residents with a donation bucket at its register. The business has a second donation bucket for one of its employees who lost everything in the fire, according to a Facebook post.
The House of Ludington has also set up a Venmo account to raise funds for its staff and tenants.
