ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The president of Bay College has been named among the finalists for a position at Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) in Lower Michigan.
Dr. Nerita Hughes took the office of Bay College President in July of 2023, following a sixth-month search to fill the position. She was officially inaugurated that November.
On November 25, Grand Rapids Community College posted a press release listing Dr. Hughes as one of three finalists in the search for its next president. The other candidates are Dr. Jason Rivera, Vice Provost for Student Success and Dean of University College at Ball State University, and Dr. Kathryn Rogalski, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Workforce Development at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College.
WZMQ 19 reached out to Bay College for comment. In response, representatives sent the following statement:
“Bay College stated, “Dr. Hughes was recently selected as a finalist for a presidential position at Grand Rapids Community College. She remains deeply committed to Bay College, its employees, and the important work the College and community are leading together. Dr. Hughes continues to enjoy her role at Bay College and believes strongly in the direction it is heading as an institution. She remains fully focused on the College’s goals and continued success.“
GRCC is hosting opportunities for its campus and community to meet the candidates throughout the first two weeks of December. The college aims to select its next president before the end of the year.
