MARQUETTE COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – As temperatures continue to drop, the Michigan State Police is calling on its surrounding communities to help keep others warm.
The MSP’s fifth annual Winter Coat Drive is underway, accepting donations through November 27.
New and gently-used winter coats can be brought to the MSP Negaunee Post located at 180 US-41, MSP Eighth District Headquarters at 1924 Industrial Pkwy in Marquette, or the MSP Post in Sault St. Marie, at 3900 I-75 Business Spur. Donations will stay local throughout each respective county.
Public Information Officer Lt. Ben Eckola says previous donations have been well received throughout the Upper Peninsula, donating hundreds of warm winter layers over the years.
“The goal behind this coat drive is to help look out for some of our fellow Yoopers who may need a little extra help this winter,” he said. “It’s a very positive reception, it speaks to the generosity and the caring nature of our great U.P. communities.”
Donations can be made during regular MSP hours, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
