ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Thursday, three Escanaba organizations came together for an afternoon of remembrance.
Jim’s Dari-Kreme and UP Health System Home Care & Hospice hosted their fifth annual 9/11 memorial event. This was the first time the event was held at the Vet Center. Veterans and community members gathered for an ice cream social and a moment of reflection.
Attendee Gary LaFave served in the Navy from 1964 to 1967. He said the event was a touching tribute to those who died on September 11, 2001, as well as an opportunity to bring local veterans together.
“To me, personally, I think that really they’re all heroes to us, every one of them,” LaFave said. “That’s just my opinion. I’ve been seeing a lot more being done for us veterans than there really has been. I think it’s good.”
The Escanaba Vet Center provides services and resources for veterans, active-duty service members, and military members year-round. For more information on the Vet Center, click here or call (906) 233-0244.
