MARQUETTE, Mich. — A downtown housing project at 401 West Washington is moving forward after securing city approval for Brownfield Redevelopment funds this summer, according to Marquette officials.
Developers plan to raze most of the condemned structure and build a three-story mixed-use building with two retail spaces on the ground floor and 11 apartments above. Nine of the apartments will be tied to area median income to expand affordable housing options.
“The Brownfield Authority accepted the application in June. They approved the plan in July, and then the city commission held a public hearing at the end of August and approved it at the regular meeting,” said Sean Hobbins, deputy city manager.
The project is now under state review. If approved, it will proceed to zoning and site plan review. City officials said they hope construction could begin next year.
