Lake Effect Community Arts presents ‘Imagination to Manifestation’ exhibit showcasing two artists

MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Manistique’s Lake Effect Community Arts Center has brought two artists together to create a one-of-a-kind exhibit.

Imagination to Manifestation features the work of Larry Godfrey and Stella Larkin. Godfrey creates sculptures using metal scraps, chains, sprockets, and other materials. Larkin’s designs are made with pounded-down beer bottle caps and strips of soda cans.

Lake Effect Operations Manager Katie Birdsley says both artists’ found art pieces uniquely complement one another.

“The combination between the almost roughness of Larry’s work and how some of it has barbed wire—so it’s a little sharper, a little heavier, there’s a little more weight to it—while Stella’s, it’s more whimsical,” said Birdsley. “It’s lighter in color, and there’s coppers and more of the lighter metals. You can see how they flow together. It feels very comforting in here, and I don’t know how to explain that, other than it just feels very good. They bring a lot of good energy with their work.”

This is not the first time Lake Effect Community Arts Center has hosted multiple artists in one exhibit, and it will not be the last. Birdsley says the center takes pride in matching artists up and giving them a chance to shine together.

“We love having collaborations like this to see how different workers can come together and create something so spectacular in ways that we didn’t expect,” she said.

The opening reception for Imagination to Manifestation is scheduled for Friday, August 1, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The reception is open to the public, and refreshments will be served.
