MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Across the week, NMU’s Center for Community and Connection is holding a ‘Week of Jubilee,’ sharing history and culture through the following span of events.
- Monday – Community Picnic and Potluck, Presque Isle Pavilion, 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.
- Tuesday – Rhythms & Motion of Freedom: Drum Workshop, Ore Dock Brewing Co. 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
- Wednesday – Rhythms & Motion of Freedom: Dance Workshop, Ore Dock Brewing Co. 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
- Thursday – Juneteenth Festival: Celebrating Freedom, Culture, and Creativity, Lakeview Arena, 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.
- Friday – Legacy & Liberation: A Juneteenth Film Night, Mead Auditorium, NMU, 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
The week looks to honor both the legacy and ongoing journey of liberation and resilience throughout the community.
“I think its really important for us to come out and celebrate and learn as we are out with the community,” said NMU Center for Community and Connection Coordinator, Freddy Sims. “It’s also a nice opportunity to be out, we don’t always get this nice weather.”
