As Trump Hosts Military Parade, People Hold Protests about his Policies

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As President Donald Trump hosted a military parade in D.C, people across the country and in the capital protested his administration and their policies. We followed one protest that marched to the White House to air their grievances.

Tensions have boiled over following recent riots in Los Angeles over deportations and raids. Following those protests, many across the country are throwing a ‘No Kings’ day protest.

“I understand ICE has a job to do and I’m all here for it but the way they’re carrying their responsibilities right now are destroying families, uprooting lives and families they’re causing havoc and chaos,” said Amanda, a protester who is originally from Los Angeles.

On Saturday, the ‘Resist Fascism’ organization threw a protest in D.C. Many shared with us the reasons why they turned up to march.

“I just see a lot of our rights being stripped away from us,” said Dani, a protester. “A lot of the due process is going away. It’s very upsetting and it empowers the people if we stand up and fight against this.”

“For me, Trump has had a big impact on my future on my job as a young person as a deaf person,” said Annie, a protester. “My benefits, my health insurance is terrible. We need to change this for the future. I want to show the world that we are not with Trump. We don’t agree with Trump’s vision or with ‘Project 2025’. We want to tell the international communities that Americans are not with Trump.”

“I am out here as a young woman in America,” said Amanda. “I feel like the administration is stripping away our rights almost everyday.” She also shares her concerns surrounding ‘Project 2025’.

Many are hopeful these protests are just the beginning of pushing back against the administration.

“It means that we’re getting somewhere and maybe people will start to listen,” said Matt, a protester.

The D.C. protest dispersed after awhile protesting near the White House. Some protesters stayed behind. Others moved near the D.C. military parade to protest there.
