MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The D.J. Jacobetti home is one of three major veteran homes in Michigan. Soon, a new modern home for veterans will be constructed in Marquette Township.
On Friday morning, Governor Whitmer, alongside representatives from the state of Michigan, the Board of Directors for Michigan Veteran Homes (MVH), and the Michigan Veterans Facility Authority (MVFA), came to break ground at the site of the new and improved D.J. Jacobetti Homes.
Federal and state funding for the project have been in the works since 2017, as well as an agreement with a private seller to acquire over 38 acres of land in Marquette Township.
“Thanks to a $33 million dollar state investment, we’re building this new state-of-the-art veterans home,” said Governor Whitmer. “And for those of you who have not seen the ones in Chesterfield Township or Grand Rapids, be aware, this is going to be a phenomenal place.”
The veteran campus community will be located in a wooded area for wildlife views, including individual private rooms, and the same dedicated care they’ve received at the current D.J. Jacobetti home in Marquette.
The new veteran homes are set to be completed by the summer of 2027.
