Bolander, Pietila tie for best Wildcats scores
AUGUSTA, Mich. – The NMU women’s golf team wrapped up second round competition from the 2025 GLIAC Championship, finishing seventh of nine teams to conclude the season.
The Wildcats (+84) posted a second-round score of +38, eight strokes better than their first round score, moving up to finish ahead of Lake Superior State (+90) and Parkside (+106). No. 10 Grand Valley State (+2), No. 37 Ferris State (+25), Wayne State (+35), and Davenport (+43) all qualified to advance to the medal match play this evening.
The 5,829-yard par 72 course played slightly harder today, averaging a score of 81.91, 1.89 strokes harder than yesterday. Similar to yesterday, none of the holes averaged under par. As a team for the tournament, the ‘Cats played the par threes at +36 (7th), the par fours at +44 (7th), and the par fives at +38 (6th) to go with eight birdies (8th), 75 pars (7th), 69 bogeys (1st). and 26 doubles+ (3rd).
Abbie Pietila turned in the best round for the ‘Cats today with her round of +8, 80, and tied for the team-lead with her two-day total of +18. Pietila scored a 43 on the back-nine with three pars, five bogeys, and a double-bogey before making the turn. Pietila had a terrific front-nine, where she fired home birdies on the par-five fifth and par-four seventh to go along with four pars to turn in a 37 on the front. Pietila ended her tournament tied for 27 on the field.
Both Hailey Bolander and Maddy Martens shot rounds of +9, 81 today, both recording a birdie as well. Bolander ended her tournament at +18, a tie for the team lead and a tie for 27th overall, with her birdie coming on the par-four 16th. Martens finished third on the team and 32nd overall with her score of +23, with her circle coming on the par-three fourth.
Payton Dube rounded out the team scoring with her round of +12, 84 today, finishing her tournament at +29 and 36th overall. Maggie Pietila turned in a card of +17, 89, finishing 37th overall.
Olivia Stoll of GVSU crushed the field, shooting -4 today to give her a stroke-play total of -7. Lizzie Anderson of Ferris State was next at +2, and Paula Badino and Megan Miron of GVSU shared a tie for third at +3.
