WASHINGTON, D.C. – The White House has added some extra decorations to the north lawn. No, it’s not extra flower pots or trees. It’s similar to yard signs with images of people they say are illegal aliens ICE arrested.
On Monday, the White House and “Border Czar” Tom Homan is defending and highlighting their work on what they describe as the carrying out the largest deportation campaign in American history.
“This is unprecedented success,” said Homan during a press briefing after he says the number of illegal crossings has drastically come down. “The border secure.”
The Administration has conducted raids and mass deportations of people they said illegally entered into the US and for many, accuse them of committing crimes or being part of criminal gangs. The Administration has faced questions and criticism about due process.
“They’re removing public safety threats and national security threats every day while you’re all sleeping at 2-3 o’clock in the morning,” said Homan. “There are men and women out there enforcing law make this country safe again.”
On Monday, the White House displayed images of around one-hundred undocumented immigrants arrested or deported along with descriptions of the crimes they allegedly committed. These signs are hard to miss.
The White House placed these signs along what’s known as “pebble beach”. It’s an area where press will enter the White House campus as well as the White House administrative staff will also enter this area and walk around here. It’s a frequent area for reporters to conduct some of their interviews. It’s also the area where the TV news networks set up their cameras for the White House to be a backdrop in their newscast. The White House has pretty much placed these signs pretty much front and center along pebble beach in hopes of these news crews will be able to catch a glimpse of these signs during their broadcast. Some of the journalists who cover the White House could not go on camera for an interview because they said it would violate their work contracts. Some of them say the signs are “distracting” and another one said “it’s a good way for the Administration to get their message across.”
We also reached out to the White House Correspondents Association, the organization of journalists who cover the White House, about these signs. We did not get a response back.
Tuesday marks the Presidents 100 days in office. We can expect the White House to tout the work they believe the President has fulfilled since his return to office.
