MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Continuing Anderton’s Earth Week at NMU, a denim swap was held in Jamrich Hall on Wednesday. NMU’s student sustainability club Ecoreps worked with NMU Rotaract to create the event.
The denim swap is in support of denim day for sexual assault awareness month. Students had the chance to bring in their jean attire to swap for different options, promoting sustainability. The group’s goal is to renew the clothing and keep materials away from landfills.
There is a lot of denim that goes into the landfill and denim takes a lot of water consumption to make in the first place,” said NMU Sustainable Business Senior, Grace Listopad. “So, its better to keep it out of the landfill and swap it around, than to just throw it out.”
Denim day will be next Wednesday, April 30. To check out more of NMU’s Earth Week events, visit nmu.edu.
