MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – In honor of Earth Day, Queen City Running Company in Marquette held a “Plogging” run on Tuesday. Around fifteen runners from the Marquette area got together to run the streets of Marquette and pick up trash on the side of the road. Plogging comes from the Swedish word “plog” which means “to pick up” and jogging. The Queen City Running General Manager Matt Johnson said they want to give back to the city by keeping the roadside clean.
“We get the privilege and the ability to be able to run around the city every single day of the year, the city does a great job of keeping it open for us year round and we just want to kind of give back,” said Johnson. “And also to make sure it stays clean for runners, walkers, everything, year round.”
Queen city running will also be working with NMU throughout the week to reuse used running shoes to keep running sustainable.
