MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Thursday, Northern Michigan University’s 29th annual Celebration of Student Scholarship, recognized many various projects completed by undergraduate and graduate students, throughout all areas of research. Several of these student projects have been funded by scholarship grants and other external funds. Students are now able to showcase what that opportunity has brought. The event was open to the public, welcoming plenty of attention to their hard work.

“Engaging with other students and engaging with the general public, really allows them to share the results of their work,” said Tesse Sayen, director of Research Administration at NMU. “To share the huge impact that their work can have.”

This year, NMU expanded its categories to represent more areas of expertise across campus. Opening opportunities in artistic formats, including film and video, graphic design, illustrations, and more. Students utilizing this event as a platform to share their studies say that the encouragement and excitement from the university goes a long way.

“It makes me feel pretty good to be an undergrad, to present actual research done, and studies that we’re going to do, and talk about these grants and opportunities,” said Logan Blankenship, a psychology major at Northern. “It makes me feel proud to be able to share it with people, and to be able to do it, just in general.”

“I think it’s a really vital part of education,” said Social Work Major, Hannah Morrison. “Honestly, being able to have this opportunity and be able to represent Northern Michigan University, and just learn how to do research has been my favorite part of attending.”

Over 200 projects were on display throughout Hall, completed by over 360 students, under guidance by various faculty members.
