ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Tuesday, several Delta County organizations came together to ensure local veterans have a happy Easter.
The Community Foundation for Delta County partnered with Enbridge, Feeding America, Sayklly’s, and others to hand out approximately 150 bags of food to veterans at the U.P. State Fairgrounds. Each veteran received ham, bread, fruits and vegetables, and everything else needed for a complete Easter dinner.
At the start of the distribution, a line of cars was wrapped around the fairgrounds as veterans waited for the volunteers to fill their trunks.
“It’s just a way of giving them the opportunity to be able to celebrate with family and friends,” said Community Foundation Board Chair Charlie Becker. “This is one way of doing it, that we can provide a meal for them to make on Easter. It’s really just a way of saying thanks for the support they’ve given our country and given us over the years.”
The Community Foundation for Delta County also hosts food distributions each Thanksgiving. The organization works with the local VA office to identify veterans who could benefit from the event.
