The Superior Watershed Partnership opens a new electronic recycling site

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Superior Watershed Partnership opened a new Electronic Waste Recycling site in Marquette Wednesday.

This site, located on North Lakeshore Boulevard, is free and open for community members on Wednesdays from 12 to 4 p.m. to drop off their electronics to be properly disposed of.

They’ll take most electronics, from TVs, game consoles, keyboards, phones, and printers etc. However, the site will not take household electronics like microwaves, batteries, lightbulbs, vacuums, toasters, or air conditioners. The Superior Watershed Partnership has worked with Michigan’s Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy to promote proper electronics disposal.

“So the goal of SWP is to make sure that individuals know that there is a way that we can recycle what we can and that we can reuse some of these materials and really keep them out of the landfills and out of the environment,” said Kathleen Henry, special projects coordinator with the Superior Watershed Partnership.

When dropping off electronics, there is a suggested donation of $5, but it is not mandatory. If any companies would like to participate in proper electronic disposal, they are asked to email Henry at kathleen@superiorwatersheds.org.

For more information on the site and electronic recycling, you can visit the Superior Watershed Partnership website.
