ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Escanaba is joining a global event to usher in the summer season with music.
On Saturday, June 21, the Escanaba Downtown Development Authority (DDA) will host its inaugural Make Music Escanaba event. Make Music Day started in France in 1982 and has since spread to 120 countries. Escanaba is one of three Michigan communities participating this year.
Artists and bands of all genres and skill levels will perform at various locations throughout Escanaba. This year’s Jim’s Music spring recital happens to fall on the same day, so music students will be performing on the Escanaba Marketplace stage from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.
“It can be a band, somebody that plays a guitar or an accordion, maybe a group of people that have sheet music to hand out and you can sing with the choir,” said DDA Director Craig Woerpel. “You can be a beginner, you can be experienced and a professional, it doesn’t matter. The idea is to get out, to enjoy the community, have people come by and listen to you, and just have some fun on the first day of summer and join musicians from all over the world as they’re doing the same thing.”
