ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The executive director of the Delta County Chamber of Commerce has been chosen to head an entity that represents fairs and festivals throughout the state.

Now in her seventh year with the organization, Vickie Micheau has been elected President of the Board of Directors of the Michigan Association of Fairs and Exhibitions (MAFE).

“It’s a great organization,” Micheau said. “They’re very involved on the legislative side of the fair business, doing all that they can to support agriculture, education, and really the missions of fairs and festivals within the state.”

In 1999, Micheau was appointed to the state Fair Board of Managers. She has been active in making Michigan fairs successful ever since, especially in Escanaba where the chamber manages the U.P. State Fair. Now, her guidance will help all fairs in the state navigate changes and serve their communities.

“I’ll be a little bit more involved in some of the policy discussion and making sure that the policies and procedures that are in place are followed,” said Micheau. “I would be helping our executive director, who is amazing, make sure that where there’s support, that I’m there to give it to him.”

Micheau says she’s proud to serve as MAFE Board President. As the zone representative for the entire Upper Peninsula, she will also be acting as a voice for every fair in the area.

“I’m pretty committed to our U.P. fairs,” Micheau said with a smile. “We’ve got great fairs in the Upper Peninsula. It’s been an honored tradition for so long. For us to be able to claim our best practices and bring that information back to all the other fairs within the state, it’s a very important responsibility.”

She is excited for the opportunity to further her work of shaping the future of fairs, both here in the U.P. and across Michigan.

“It’s an honor to be in, really, a servant leadership role,” said Micheau. “This group is a hard-working group. They’re doing as much as they can to support their members, and to be in a position to help all the members of the association, it really is an honor.”
