MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Superior Arts Youth Theater, in partnership with the Wildcat Performing Arts Academy, is presenting the Wizard of Oz, a timeless classic loved by all. The cast is made up of younger actors, none over 18 years old.

Scarecrow. Lucas Baron sees this play as a theater staple,

“As a musical, and I’ve always wanted to do Wizard of Oz, so I’m really glad I got to do it,” said Barron.

Baron believes theater is important to any community.

“Theater brings people together, whether you’re in the cast, the crew, or watching the show. It creates connections and relationships,” said Barron.

Nate Wood, who plays the cowardly lion, explains the importance of getting their lines right.

Every line has a meaning, and every line is important. It could be a cue for the music. It could be a cue for the crew backstage. You know, it could be a various meetings behind that line,” explained Wood.

Nate believes this is a special cast.

“I was taken aback by the amount of talent that we have in the show. I was beyond gracious to be offered the role of the lion,” said Nate.

Director of the show, Jackie Wiles, believes this production is pretty close to the original,

“Our script that we actually are using for this show is like the closest thing to the movie, with some differences here and there,” said Wiles.
