Michigan Tech’s Wangen earns silver
ISHPEMING, Mich. – The NMU women’s nordic ski team opened the 2025 NCAA Central Regional Skiing Championships with the 7.5k, claiming gold and bronze on the day.
The Wildcats claimed gold thanks to a comeback effort from Merle Richter, crossing the line with a time of 24:42.7, two seconds ahead of second place. Richter opened with a lap times of 7:53.0 and 8:00.0 in her first two 2.5ks, sitting fifth with only one lap to go. Richter then turned in a lap of 8:49.6, posting the fastest final lap time to claim gold and knock Marie Wangen of Michigan Tech to second place.
Rounding out the podium was Victoria Dybwad in third, claiming a bronze medal with a time of 24:45.0. Dybwad posted lap times of 7:50.1, 7:56.9, and 8:57.8.
Jordan Parent finished in fifth with a time of 24:51.3, posting lap times of 7:52.7, 7:55.0, and 9:03.4.
Pearl Harvey finished 11th at 25:44.8, Ella Niznik 17th at 26:56.3, and Henriette Nilssen DNS.
NMU now looks ahead to tomorrow, competing in the 20k mass start from Al Quaal in Ishpeming, Michigan. The women start at 9:30 a.m., followed by the men at 11:30 a.m.
