MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Over the past four months, a new trailhead facility in the southern trails of the Noquemanon Trail Network has been in progress.
This includes the construction of a 900 square foot pavilion, fit with a storage garage for trail maintenance equipment. The project is managed by a team of five Northern Michigan University construction management students who have planned, coordinated purchases, gathered materials, worked with an architect, and overall helped with the construction of the building. “This is a project that wouldn’t have happened anytime soon if they wouldn’t have agreed to step up and assist us with it,” said Lori Hauswirth, the executive director at NTN. “It’s a great opportunity for us and them, as well as the township.”
Over $20,000 have been raised throughout the community to fund the pavilion, easily reaching a goal needed to start back in September of 2024. “With a short pause from the cold, we were able to get the posts and beams up during the warmer days.” Hauswirth said.
No clear end date has been disclosed, but there’s hopes it will be available to the public soon.
