MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Tuesday Art Classes with Marlene Wood held by the Marquette Art and Culture Society plan to continue in 2025. These classes are a free space for participants to try out art no matter their experience.

These drop-in classes are open to the public, participants are welcome to bring their own materials or borrow the materials provided and are encouraged to try any medium of art they would like. The art classes are held every Tuesday from 1 to 3 at the Peter White Public Library in Marquette. A class costs $20, participants are able to pay at the class or purchase a bundle card prior, which gets you one free class.

Marlene Wood the class instructor has been teaching art for over 35 years at a school in Chicago before moving here 5 years ago, and starting the Tuesday Art Classes.

“I think that art is such a wonderful avenue for everything, cognitive thoughts, stress relief, everything. I think everybody needs to do, to try it at least and so many people would love to try it but they’re scared,” Marlene Wood, Tuesday art class instructor.

Wood has a passion for teaching and spreading knowledge, as well as the comradery and community in these classes, like students helping and learning from each other. No matter how many students are in the class that week, Wood gives undivided attention to each one of them not matter how much or little experience they have.

“Art is very healing and very wonderful, it very everything. I think nowadays, especially in cognitive problem-solving. Artists do as much problem-solving as anybody else only in different ways. I think everyone should try it and if you think you’re horrible that’s because someone told you that not because you are,”.

The dates for these classes are posted on the Marquette Arts and Culture Society website as well as the Peter White Public Library website. You can also find details on if a class is canceled or purchasing class bundle passes.
