MACKINAC COUNTY, Mich. – The Michigan State Police (MSP) is pleased to announce the assignment of a new sergeant at the St. Ignace Post. Sergeant Jeffrey Jerome has been a dedicated member of the MSP for over 28 years. He is excited to bring his wealth of experience and commitment to the community.
Joining the 8th District had always been one of Sergeant Jerome’s original dream choices upon graduating from recruit school. After spending many years in the 3rd District, the opportunity to transfer north was eventually presented to him. Sgt. Jerome appreciates the small-town atmosphere and is looking forward to serving the community. He plans on remaining in the area long-term.
“I hope with my experiences within the last 28 years, I can bring positive changes and guidance to our young troopers who serve our community,” said Sgt. Jerome. “I am also looking very forward to meeting community members as my time progresses at the St. Ignace Post.”
Sergeant Jerome was initially introduced to the MSP through an older family friend who served as an MSP trooper in the 1940s and 1950s. His friend’s stories of service sparked an early interest in law enforcement. After high school in 1990, Sergeant Jerome joined the Air Force and eventually retired from the Michigan Air National Guard in 2018 as a Chief Enlisted Manager. In March 1996, he joined the MSP as a graduate of the 114th Recruit School.
His first post assignment was at the Caro Post in Michigan’s Thumb area, where he spent 10 years performing general patrol duties, often investigating serious felony cases. He later transferred to Thumb Narcotics as an undercover officer for two years. Sergeant Jerome then moved to the now-closed Bridgeport Post, where he worked on the Saginaw Secure Cities Detail for 12 years, focusing on violent crime enforcement in urban areas.
He also served for a year on the FBI Task Force, targeting a criminal organization, and later spent four years with the 3rd District/U.S. Marshal Fugitive Team, focusing on high-risk warrant arrests. Two years ago, Sergeant Jerome was promoted to Sergeant at the Tri-City Post, where he served as the night shift road patrol supervisor, overseeing three counties and supervising troopers within the City of Saginaw.
