MARQUETTE, Mich. The Marquette Board of Light and Power announced the winners of their holiday light contest over the weekend.
16 prizes were handed out for the best home holiday light displays in 5 categories. The winners all put some serious thought into their yuletide luminescence, with some of the more modest light shows found on city streets while some of the more extravagant exhibitions were found just outside the city. Starting with the category called “Lighting The Way”. These larger displays filled entire front yards winners in this category included the Parvu family on Brookton Rd., and then we have, the Bell family and the Acocks family of South Marquette, who live next door to each other, both winning for their elaborate illumination.
Another category, “Frosty’s Favorites” sought contestants with medium-sized light displays, like the Brugman family on West College Avenue and Mary Bawden on Center Street. Regardless of the wattage of how many bulbs on the tree, everyone who entered contributed to Marquette’s holiday spirit.
There is one light show in a category all its own…It’s the winter wonderland of Stacey and John Carter’s massive holiday display. Occupying nearly an entire block on Vandenboom in Marquette twp. Carter’s display is obviously a labor of love put together by just John and Stacey…And a lot of electricity.
For Tamara Doney of Ishpeming, it’s a family tradition.
“Coming here with the grandchildren, watching the excitement and the awe in their eyes, it just brings back your own childhood,” Said Doney.
The Carter holiday light show is located at 1313 Vandenboom in Trowbridge Park.
